Overseas tours, immersion programmes and music camps are highlights for our SNYCO members. These opportunities give our youth performers the chance to visit overseas youth ensembles and music education institutions, and broaden their musical horizons at subsidised rates. At the same time, they serve as “ambassadors” for Singapore’s performing arts scene.
Since inaugural, SNYCO has been invited to perform at various music festivals – including the Tainan International Qixi Arts Festival (2006), Hsinchu Chinese Music Festival (2013 & 2019), ASEAN Youth Ensemble (2017), and Macao International Youth Music Festival (2017). In 2017 and 2019, our youth flew the Singapore flag high, holding five successful concerts in Beijing, Suzhou, Guangdong and Shanghai, and held an exchange programme with the China Conservatory of Music during the China concert tour. The latest tour in 2023 to East Malaysia saw our youth presenting 2 full-length concerts at Sabah and Sarawak, and performed with 9 local orchestras from Sabah, uniting 300 musicians as part of the Sabah Ethnic Music Festival 2023. Members also had in-depth music conversations with passion-driven Sarawak students in a half-day exchange while visiting significant cultural landmarks around East Malaysia.
Each membership year, SNYCO members are selected for music camps run by esteemed youth orchestras around the world, such as the Hong Kong Youth Music Camp and Hsinchu Chinese Music Camp. These are valuable experiences for our youths, who share their knowledge with their overseas counterparts and also immerse themselves in overseas culture and practices.
Meanwhile, our Overseas Music Immersion Programme provides outstanding members with the opportunity to study at a reputable music conservatory, such as the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, for up to four weeks. The programme is subsidised and aims to nurture future professional musicians.
