Musical Voyage II

    Musical Voyage II

Conducted by SNYCO Conductor Lien Boon Hua, this captivating concert showcases a journey through both local heritage and imaginative landscapes beyond Singapore. The night opens with a world-premiere composition, Bird’s-Eye View composed by esteemed Singaporean jazz musician Chok Kerong, setting an inspiring tone for the evening.

Maestro Kuan Nai-chung’s iconic work A Trip to Lhasa blends the composer’s impressions and imagination of the city, from the grandeur of The Potala Palace to the powerful tradition of celestial burial. Young composer Wen Zhanli, on the other hand, offers a deeply personal perspective of Tibet, inspired by the composer’s own travels through his evocative piece, The Encounter and The Forgotten Valley.

Audiences will also enjoy Singapore-inspired pieces like Prince Sang Nila Utama and Singa by Law Wai Lun, retelling the legend of Singapore’s founding prince, and Storytellers on Ann Siang Road by Phang Kok Jun, a chamber ensemble piece that evokes the vibrant, multicultural past of Singapore’s historic streets. Together, these pieces offer a rich tapestry of musical storytelling, brought to life by SNYCO’s talented young musicians.
