The concert was really well planned with just the right amount of pieces allocated, given the last and climatic piece being 30 minutes (as shared by Mr Quek); the pieces were really suited for the theme of that day “Valentines” and my favourite piece is undeniably the last one as it features 2 very prominent soloists who are happily married so it is a very memorable piece, especially as it is on Val’s day and they have premiered it 20 years ago. Hearing them play in person is indeed a privilege and the closing 赛马is on another level (pipa and erhu version). One definite learning pointer is 赵老师’s eye- opening solo parts—his tone is amazing.

After attending the concert, I was impressed by the selection of pieces and the orchestra’s performance. The repertoire featured a wide range of familiar songs that resonated with both the audience and me. The overall atmosphere was relaxed, with many members of the public enjoying the classics, such as the Deng Lijun songs with their recognizable melodies. The most memorable song for me was “Bian Ba,” as SNYCO had previously performed it. However, the favourite piece for me was the Deng Lijun classics mashup, which was honestly just a wonderful experience listening to the works transposed to Chinese orchestra and the different instruments that make the piece come alive. Some improvements is to bring back the signature session even though the signatures could be fake/ not for official use, the experience itself is a magical feeling.

Overall, it was an amazing concert done by SCO and the soloist!!! Firstly,《轻轻思念》was a really good as it was dedicated to Mother Earth which made a really good opening! However, overall the one that really caught my heart was 《边巴》。 This was because it was on friendship which reminded me on my friend’s father sudden suicidal death due to depression, and reminded how I told myself I would be there with my friend through that phase of grief. My most memorable piece was 《天缘》as it showed me how the soloists are not just playing a piece, but were really into the music, expressing the love behind the repertoire. All in all, congrats to all the soloists and SCO musicians, and of course Mr Quek for the amazing concert!!!
