Wang Siyuan was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music Affiliated Middle School in Beijing in 2008, where she studied pipa under Professor Fan Wei of the Central Conservatory of Music. After graduating in 2015, she entered the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in Singapore, where she has continued her studies under Yu Jia, Principal Pipa of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO). In the same year, she was admitted to the Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra (SNYCO). In September 2023, she joined the SCO as a Pipa Musician, and from August 2026, she has served as Pipa Teacher Artist of the SNYCO.

During her studies, Wang frequently represented her school in solo and chamber performances at leading arts institutions in mainland China, including the China Conservatory of Music and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. In November 2017, during the visit of HRH Prince Charles to NAFA, she represented the academy’s Chinese Music Department in a performance of Moonlit Night on a Spring River.

In December 2016, Wang represented the NAFA Quartet at the Singapore National Chinese Music Competition (SCMC), winning first prize in the Open Ensemble and Small Orchestra Category. In 2017, she won first prize in the Pipa Open Category at the inaugural Singapore Nanyang International Music Competition (NIMC), and also won first prize in the Professional Ensemble Category as a member of the NAFA Quartet. In 2018, she won first prize in the Pipa Open Category at the SCMC, and was selected to perform Silk Road Apsaras at the Winners’ Concert with the SCO. In March 2019, she was selected to perform at the Dauntless Spirit concert presented by the SNYCO and the SCO, where she performed the pipa concerto The Sword and the Scroll with the SCO.

While majoring in pipa, Wang also began studying zhongruan, building on her strong pipa foundation. After graduating from NAFA with a degree in pipa performance in 2020, she chose to remain at the academy to continue studying zhongruan as a second major under Yu Jia. In the same year, she won first prize in the Zhongruan Senior Category at the SCMC. In 2021, she received the Outstanding Gold Award in the Zhongruan Senior Professional Category at the 3rd NIMC (Chinese Music Division).

In 2023, Wang continued her studies at NAFA in the master’s programme. In December of the same year, she represented NAFA in a performance of the pipa concerto Seeking Yupraska alongside the China Conservatory Chinese Orchestra.

During her tenure with the SCO, Wang toured the UK and Hong Kong as a member of the SCO quintet under conductor Kahchun Wong, and has collaborated with the Hallé Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

In May 2026, Wang graduated from NAFA with First Class Honours, ranking first in her master’s cohort, and was awarded the NAFA Best Graduate Award.
