Welcome, curious minds! Music Chatterbox sparks cross-cultural conversations between SNYCO members and young musicians of non-Chinese instruments. In this online series, we explore the similarities between Chinese instruments and their equivalents from other cultures — and see how musicians come together to create fresh new possibilities!
In the first season of Music Chatterbox, SNYCO alumnus and Mediacorp artiste Ayden Sng chats with eight young musicians about the contrasts and convergences between Chinese instruments and their equivalents from other cultures, while hearing about their personal stories and insights. The season finale includes a performance of a commissioned piece, Rojak City composed by Sulwyn Lok, for all eight musicians and their instruments — a delightful celebration of Singapore’s diverse heritage!
Music Chatterbox Season 2
SNYCO alumnus and Mediacorp artiste Ayden Sng returns in the second season of Music Chatterbox, once again connecting with eight young musicians about how Chinese instruments correspond with instruments from other cultures — while sparking candid conversations about what intrigues them about music. This time, the episodes are filmed at iconic cultural venues including Indian Heritage Centre, Tian Hock Keng Temple and Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall, and Wisma Geylang Serai. Viewers can look forward to another inspiring music video in which all eight musicians perform a commissioned piece together, Sulwyn Lok’s Ascend, during the season finale!
